Bates Mens 8 inch DuraShocks Waterproof Boot features:
Overall great comfortable boot without the price of the Danner's. Feet stay dry and surprisingly warm in the cold Iowa winters. My only complaint is when the tread wears down past the "durashock" cleats they become treacherously slick on snow and ice!!
I ordered these boots thinking that they were Goretex as advertised. The boots I received are "Bates Dry" not Goretex. I have no idea what the qualtity of "Bates Dry" water proofing is but it is not what I ordered or wanted. I now have to deal paying a shipping fee to return a boot that was not received as advertised. Buyer beware.
I've worn need boots for the last 8 years, they are by far the best boot for the money, and bates always stands behind their product. These boots are comfortable right out of the Box.
Wanted the Danner's w/out the price. I've had a pair going on three years and they're still in great shape. Clean up and polish well. Soles are far from worn out. Buy several pairs of laces when ordering. Will buy another pair.
I have wore this boots for over three years. Price is right, really comfortable boots, durable and one of the best ones for correctional environment. I still have well over 50% of boot life out of my first pair of this boots. will buy same boots till i retire from corrections.
Definitely the most comfortable out of the box boot I've purchased in the past 10 years or more. Great traction, clean up and polish well. As others stated, last a solid year in great shape, then I keep them another year or more for OHV patrols, SAR missions and other dirty jobs. Getting ready to purchase another pair!
I've have worn this particular Bates product for the last five years, and each pair last about a year. I wear these boots for regular patrol and OT OHV enforcement in sandy rocky conditions and operate OHVs with them, and they take a beating and always polish easy. Worth the money. Purchase a extra pair of laces, the boots out last approx two pairs.
Q: What type of sole is on this boot? Is it the Vibram rubber lug outsole?
A: "The Bates Durashocks Gore-Tex 8"" Boots feature a rubber slip-resistant outsole. "
